Welcome to Leighlin Union of Parishes Website
Welcome to the website of the Leighlin Union of Parishes which is made up of four distinct churches. The ancient cathedral church of Saint Laserian, Old Leighlin, is the principal church of the group. The parish churches of Saint John at Shankill [Paulstown], Saint George [Grange Sylvae] at Goresbridge and Saint Moling
in the grounds of Borris House are the other churches in our parish family.
Each is made up of small but lively communities which span the borders of counties Carlow and Kilkenny. Each is set in some of the most beautiful countryside in Ireland.
Although rooted in the farming community, we are a diverse parish made up of the widest possible spectrum of people.
As a Christian community we seek to embody Christ in our common life especially in the living-out of God's invitation to love and service.
We are a Church of Ireland community [ie Anglican / Episcopalian] and we strive to represent those aspects of our tradition
which cherish diversity, tolerance and welcome. We are also committed to strong ecumenical relationships as is seen in our shared local witness with our catholic sisters and brothers. We do not do 'heavy religion' nor are we in the business of churchy stereotypes. Instead, we value questions as much as answers and welcome all who wish to explore life's journey within the community of Jesus' friends.
Happily, the cathedral is a growing community with a significant increase in footfall and activities. We are also equally encouraged by the growing number of children and young people who are now so apparent.
